Rev. Doctor Peter J.M. Henry
The Reverend Doctor Peter J.M. Henry, a native Midwestern and life long Presbyterian from the Chicago area, is joining us from Grosse Pointe Memorial Church located in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Peter served as the head of staff of this 1,200 member PCUSA congregation since 2007. Prior to Grosse Pointe Memorial, Peter served as Associate Pastor for Youth at Myers Park Presbyterian (Charlotte, NC). Peter earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois in 1992. He also holds a Master of Divinity, Master of Theology – Homiletics, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Practical Theory – Homiletics from Princeton Theological Seminary. Peter is married to Shawn Samuelson Henry, a teacher, and published playwright and short story author. They have 3 children Atticus (16), Haven (16) and Whittier (12). Peter enjoys spending time with his wife and children during his time off as well as physical activities and exercise.
Assoc. Pastor for Discipleship & Mission
Robert is a graduate of NC State University, the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, and Columbia Theological Seminary. He is passionate about worship, spiritual formation in families, and mission. Robert has led a variety of national and international Mission Teams. Closer to home, he loves connecting people with ministries where they can share their gifts in service to God. He enjoys playing guitar, running, and watching movies. He lives in Cornelius with his wife Jenny and their three children.
John Plattenburg Ryan
Assoc. Pastor for Faith Formation
John was born in Ft. Lauderdale and grew up in West Virginia, near Pittsburgh. After earning his BA at Westminster College, John pursued his MA at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia. He received his DEdMin from the Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. Prior to serving here, John was on the staff at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Atlanta. John loves reading, college football (Go Bulldogs!), traveling and cycling. He combined two of those interests three years ago, when he rode his bike 140 miles from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria along the Danube River.
Staff Associate for Senior Adult Ministry
Larry Lyon is the staff associate for senior adult ministries. A honorably retired PCUSA pastor, Larry retired here with his wife Martha in 2015. He joined the DCPC staff in October, 2017. A second career pastor, Larry served as the solo pastor for Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock from 1998-2006. He then served as senior pastor of West End Presbyterian Church in West End, N.C. from 2006-2015. Larry’s first career was in newspaper journalism. He served as executive editor of The Dispatch, the daily newspaper in Lexington, N.C., from 1985-1995. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University and has a master’s of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Va. Larry and Martha have three grown children and six grandchildren. They live in Cornelius.
Temporary Associate Pastor for Campus Ministry
Claire is a graduate of Presbyterian College and Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA. Claire works with various aspects of Presbyterian campus ministry with Davidson College, including UKIRK. She and her husband, Matt, have lived in Albemarle, NC since 2012. Claire has served in interim and supply positions in churches around Charlotte Presbytery. She loves to cook, read and hike.
Director of Music
Jane Cain has served as DCPC’s music director since 1979. She directs or oversees nine vocal and handbell choirs and plays the organ. Certified as an associate of the American Guild of Organists, she also holds a bachelor of music degree from Salem College and master of music from UNC-Chapel Hill. She and her huband, Larry, have two grown children.
Associate Director of Music
David is a native of Matthews, North Carolina and he earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Music Performance with a concentration in Sacred Music from Appalachian State University, where he majored in organ, voice, and choral studies. In 2009 he earned a Masters of Sacred Music with a concentration in Organ from Emory University. David is a Certified Church Musician certification with the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. David and his wife Kelli have a son and a yellow lab.
Staff Associate of Children’s Ministry
Jenny grew up in small town Indiana, but has claimed the south as home since 1998. She attended Purdue University and graduated from the University of Evansville with a degree in Elementary Education. Children, education, and faith formation have been lifelong passions. After 10 years as a stay at home mom, Jenny is grateful for work that honors the family, encourages participation in church life, and serves a God who loves us. In her spare time, Jenny enjoys reading, travel and quality time with friends and family. She lives in Cornelius with her husband, Robert and three daughters.
Staff Associate for Youth Ministry
Matt Wiggins entered the world of youth ministry as a sixth grader in 1996 and never really left, the one difference being that he’s been a youth director rather than a youth since 2004. He graduated from The Ohio State University and has a Certificate in Youth Ministry and Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary. Besides youth directing, he has written about faith and pop culture for Relevant Magazine and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. In addition to all that, he is a husband to Lisa, a dad to Ellie and Jack, a runner, and loves movies and history.
Stephanie C. Malushizky
Director of Congregational Life
Stephanie joined the staff in March of 2010. Stephanie, an Ordained Deacon with the PC(USA), was no stranger to our congregation as she had been a member since 1999 and had been involved in many aspects of DCPC’s ministry, from chairing the former Pines Connection Committee (now SAGES) to moderating the Diaconate. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing and a minor in International Business. Stephanie lives in Davidson with her husband, Dave, and her two children, Aaron and Anna.
Harriett joined the DCPC staff in 2015. Her background is in public accounting and banking. Harriett enjoys the challenge of managing DCPC’s business functions smoothly and efficiently as well as working with the session and various committees. She and her husband Doug live in Davidson and have been long-time members of DCPC.
Julie joined the DCPC staff in October 2013. Originally from Northern, VA, she graduated from Elon College with a Computer Science degree, worked as a programmer/web developer in Northern VA and relocated to Cornelius, NC at the end of 2000. Her career switched into the accounting field, before staying home with her two children, Alec and Ava Jean. She has since returned to work part time in administrative roles. Julie enjoys spending time with family and friends and helping others.
Sid joined the staff in 2014. He lives in Davidson with his wife. Sid has two sons and four grandchildren he enjoys spending time with. He also enjoys helping people in the community as well as sports , car shows and tinkering with automobiles.
Kristin has worked in early childhood education for over 27 years, 15 have been at DCPC. She attended Texas Tech University and after helped write & coordinate curriculum for many early childhood centers in Texas. Kristin loves DCPC because each child is celebrated for their unique gifts from God.
Preschool Assistant Director
After graduating from Wingate University with an Early Education degree Hunter taught elementary school in Virginia for 10 years. Once her three children were settled at DCPC Weekday Preschool she decided to go back into education. Hunter taught in the four year old program before becoming part of the preschool office staff.
Rhonda joined the DCPC staff in April 2011. She moved to Davidson from Asheville, NC where she was Accounting Assistant and Contract Administrator for a landscape company. Rhonda attended AB Technical Community College and Gaston College. She spends her free time taking pictures of beautiful Lake Norman, as well as swimming and boating. Rhonda also enjoys spending time with her son and family.
Trish graduated from Clemson University. She and her husband, Brad are long time members of DCPC and Trish joined the DCPC Staff in 2005. Trish enjoys working with the DCPC Staff and church members.
Originally from southern California, Eric served in the U.S. Army and graduated from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah GA, finishing with a B.A. in Political Science. After college he moved to Cornelius where I fell into cooking and never looked back. I really enjoy being in the outdoors, gardening and making bean to bar chocolate in my spare time.
