Getting Involved in the Mission of DCPC

DCPC is involved in many projects across the Charlotte area and in projects as far away as Kenya.   Whatever your skills, resources, or physical abilities, your help is needed!  If you would like to talk with someone about which projects might be right for you, please contact Robert Alexander.  To read a copy of our Community Missions booklet with information about volunteering with our community partners, CLICK HERE.

Two of DCPC's Community Partners Need Your Help:

Angles and Sparrows, located in Huntersville, is a Community Table and Resource Center for individuals and families who need assistance with food, health, housing, education, housing, finances, and more.

Caterpillar Ministries  is a grass-roots non-denominational Christian organization founded in 2007. We partner with the Huntington Green community in Huntersville, N.C. Through genuine relationships, we serve more than 900 children, adults and seniors through our 4 pillars of care:

  • Faith Development

  • Academic Enrichment

  • Crisis Care

  • Advocacy Support

Caterpillar Ministries supports the well-being of families, as well as nurtures and strengthens God-centered homes.

Care for Creation in 2024

DCPC’s Green Group would like to invite you to consider a variety of creative ways to help care for creation during 2024.  With the help of our partner at Creation Justice (creationjustice.org) we will each month provide a list of new ways to live into this creation care commitment.  Just click this link and try them on. Remember, creation care is both our calling as stewards of all that God has made and a way to practice justice and neighbor love.  Thank you for helping us live into our Earth Care Congregation Commitment. Learn more about that at dcpc.org/earth-care.

The Davidson Career Transition Program

The Davidson Career Transition Program is a joint ministry of Davidson United Methodist Church (DUMC) and Davidson College Presbyterian Church (DCPC) to provide job search support for anyone who needs it (including but not limited to the congregation members of either church). The program holds workshops on the first Wednesday of each month, with the exception of July, in Room 216/218 of the Alexander Education Building of DUMC. The workshops are from 10:00 a.m. – noon, with optional time for networking beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The program is staffed with retired and semi-retired volunteers who provide coaching on career strategies, networking, resumes, interviewing, and offer negotiations. This is provided in the monthly workshops as well  as via one-to-one interaction with the volunteers. The program also has third party speakers with relevant experience (placement groups for example). It however is not a placement service, nor does it maintain a job posting board. If you would like to learn more, please contact Gail Spach at DUMC at gspach@davidsonumc.org.

Your help is needed. Do you have experience with interviewing and hiring? Are you interested in coaching others through finding a job? If so, please contact Terry Pardue.

Classroom Helpers and Math Tutors

As we celebrate our 10th year in partnership with Blythe Elementary School, we are excited to increase the number of DCPC members who volunteer regularly at the school. These two opportunities, Classroom Helpers and Heart Math Tutors will allow members to make a huge impact on the lives of children and teachers. For more information, contact Catherine Bragg.

Use your VIC card to support Blythe Elementary School

You can also support Blythe by linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to Legette Blythe Elementary, and Harris Teeter will contribute a percentage of your purchases to the school.  Click on  https://www.harristeeter.com/together-in-education#/app/cms, then on Link to Your School and follow the prompts.

Flash Mob Mission  Is Back

FLASH MOB MISSION is a last minute call for members to show up and help out for a project in the community. It could be helping someone move, picking up trash, completing a landscaping project, painting, or a simple building project. The notice will come out via REALM and if you are available just show up ready to pitch in. Be on the lookout for opportunities.

Volunteer with a community partner

DCPC supports several mission partners in our Charlotte area.   All of them depend on volunteers to serve our community.  The Community Missions Committee publishes a booklet that describes each agency and gives information about how you can volunteer.
